When spinal misalignment occurs, a wide range of symptoms can present themselves; pain, reduced mobility, inflammation, muscle spasms, and more. These symptoms can appear in many areas of the body, not just backache.
Your Spinal Misalignment might be due to many factors, the most common being
- Poor Posture
- Improper Lifting Techniques
- Weight problems
- Performing Repetitive Motions
Here are five home checks you can perform to see if your spine is out of alignment. Of course, these are not definitive checks, but they can help provide a little insight.
Check your legs:
If you have a spinal misalignment, you may notice that one leg feels longer than the other! Lie down flat and see if one of your legs extends further than the other.
Check your shoes:
If your spine is misaligned, you’ll tend to put unequal weight on one of your legs. One way to see if a misaligned spine is causing leg issues is to look at your shoes; one shoe may show a lot more wear and tear than the other.
Check your neck:
Spine misalignment can restrict the full range of motion in your neck. If you cannot seem to twist your neck fully to your left or right, or pain develops when you turn in one direction, there may be an alignment issue.
Check your posture:
When standing in front of a full-length mirror is everything level on a horizontal plane? Are your shoulders, hips, knees and ankles all on the same horizontal plane, or is one side dipping?
Check your step:
The easiest way to determine if your spine is inhibiting your gait is to walk in a straight line for 10-20 steps. See if you notice any limping or hobbling. Have a friend or family member observe to see if they can tell if anything looks disjointed.
When we welcome you to the practice as a new member, we guide you through a series of visits.
On your first visit, one of our Chiropractors will ask you to describe the health concerns which have prompted you to connect with us. They will then carry out a thorough examination using our state of the art digital posture and range of motion testing equipment; if required, the Chiropractor can refer you for x-rays or an MRI.
Once your Chiropractor has gathered all the information, they will schedule your second visit. At this visit, your Chiropractor will provide the Report of Findings, and discuss the results of the digital analysis and other testing performed at the first visit. They will explain if you are a good candidate for Chiropractic care, as well as answering any questions. You will receive your care plan recommendation and have your first adjustment.
Your care plan will include further visits including adjustments, reviews and repeat digital testing.
